HPC Plugin for BigCommerce

The FreedomPay HPC Plugin for BigCommerce enables merchants to embed FreedomPay's Hosted Payment Controls (HPC) directly into their BigCommerce store’s checkout page.

With this connection, payment data is collected via secure iFrames — meaning customers never leave the merchant’s site and sensitive data never touches the store’s servers.

The FreedomPay HPC Plugin for BigCommerce allows payment data to route through FreedomPay’s platform rather than BigCommerce, reducing PCI scope and enhancing compliance and security. Merchants can enable multiple payment methods, apply fraud rules, and perform post-transaction actions like refunds and voids--all within the BigCommerce admin panel.

This guide is specific to HPC (embedded iFrame). For HPP (hosted payment page), refer to the separate HPP Plugin for BigCommerce page or contact the FreedomPay Sales Team.

Overview: BigCommerce and HPC

BigCommerce is a leading cloud-based eCommerce platform designed to help businesses of all sizes build, manage, and grow online storefronts. It offers:

  • Product and inventory management

  • Order processing and customer tracking

  • Checkout and payment configuration

  • Marketing, tax, and shipping tools

  • Multi-channel selling (e.g., Amazon, Facebook, Instagram)

  • Custom storefronts using APIs or Stencil themes

BigCommerce supports third-party add-ons like the FreedomPay HPC Add-On to extend functionality—especially for merchants seeking secure, flexible payment integrations.

Hosted Payment Controls (HPC) is FreedomPay’s embedded payment solution designed to deliver secure, compliant, and customizable checkout flows. It allows merchants to maintain full control over the checkout experience while offloading the burden of handling sensitive payment data.

With HPC:

  • Payment data is captured via iFrames, keeping customers on the merchant’s site

  • Sensitive cardholder data never touches the merchant’s servers, reducing PCI scope (SAQ A eligible)

  • Multiple payment methods are supported: cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, gift cards, open banking, and more

  • Advanced features like tokenization, 3DS, and fraud rules are available per method

  • Merchants can trigger Capture, Refund, and Void operations from within the BigCommerce admin panel

HPC relies on FreedomPay’s Freeway APIs to perform these administrative functions securely and in real-time.

Together, BigCommerce and HPC provide a seamless, secure, and enterprise-ready checkout experience—without redirecting customers off-site or increasing compliance burden.

How BigCommerce Works with HPC

When installed and configured, the plugin:

  1. Adds FreedomPay payment methods (Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, etc.) to the BigCommerce checkout page using embedded iFrames.

  2. Routes payment data through FreedomPay, not BigCommerce, reducing PCI scope.

  3. Allows merchants to:

    • Customize which methods are enabled

    • Apply fraud rules, tokenization, and legal disclosures

    • Trigger Capture, Refund, or Void operations from within the BigCommerce admin panel

  4. Uses FreedomPay's Freeway APIs to handle administrative actions like refunds and voids.

Only payment processing goes through HPC. The rest of the checkout (cart, tax, shipping, address) remains native to BigCommerce.

Benefits

HPC enhances your BigCommerce checkout with added security, flexibility and control, while reducing compliance effort.

Security

  • Secure iFrame capture keeps data off merchant servers

  • Supports tokenization and 3D Secure (3DS)

Compliance

  • Card data stays with FreedomPay, not the BigCommerce store

  • Meets 3DS and PSD2 requirements

Efficiency

  • Manage refunds/voids in the BigCommerce admin UI

  • No need for custom backend payment logic

Payment Methods

  • Accepts cards, wallets, PayPal, and bank pay

  • Supports saved cards via “My Wallet”

Use Cases

Whether you’re optimizing checkout or simplifying compliance, these use cases show where HPC delivers value in your BigCommerce store.

Merchants who want a seamless, embedded checkout can use HPC to keep customers on their BigCommerce site without redirecting to an external payment page.

Stores that need to meet PCI and 3DS compliance benefit from FreedomPay’s secure iFrame setup and built-in support for strong customer authentication.

Merchants offering reusable saved cards can enable the “My Wallet” feature to support faster repeat purchases and stored payment preferences.
